"Your Household Guide" copyright 1957---On the cover is the wife cooking it up and the hubby bringin home the bacon----a portrait of traditional (and now old-fashioned to some) family roles which I LOVE!!!
So far I've only read through the "Hints on Cooking" section and these were the tips I came across that might come in handy:
So far I've only read through the "Hints on Cooking" section and these were the tips I came across that might come in handy:
1. If you keep the candles for the birthday cake in the 'icebox' the day before the celebration, they will burn slowly and evenly:)
2. Soak potatoes for 20 minutes in water and they will bake more rapidly:)
3. Chewing gum while peeling onions helps prevent tears:)----who knew?!
4. When making a cake, always add 2 Tablespoons of boiling water to the butter and sugar mixture and you will have a better textured cake:)
5. Do not grease the sides of cake pans...how would you like to climb a grease pole? (Seriously...that's word for word!)
I still have a few pages to skim through in the cooking tips but tomorrow I'll try to bring you something useful from the next section-"Picnic Tips".
And just like the book's introduction reads:
"Keep these tips handy and within reach at all times and consult it often---it will save you time, work, and money and add sparkle to the day-to-day routine of housekeeping"
Get to SPARKLIN' Yall!
Love,
Laura
